If there is any hotel in Split that can lay claim to being “picture perfect”, then the newly opened Briig Boutique Hotel on the edge of the Dalmatian coastline certainly ticks all the right boxes. Inside the place is an photographer’s dream; clean lines, clever use of materials and an abundance of natural light create some stunning corners and impressive vast open spaces. Outside, the signature swivel windows perfectly frame the Adriatic Sea and give you a front row seat to free-to-air TV; holidaymakers and boats crisscrossing their way through the open water.
Our room for a two-night stay was a Superior Double Room with Sea View. The sea view is most certainly there, with the nearby Bacvice Beach just a few stories below. It was fascinating to watch the hordes of locals and tourists arrive early each morning for their 7am swim. Being on the fourth floor, we also had excellent views out to the islands on the horizon, only surpassed by the view from the rooftop pool. The bed was huge and very, very comfortable and the his-and-hers sinks and deep bathtub make this a great place to chill out after a long day in the sun. The rest of the in-room amenities are what you would expect from any top hotel, with the only notable exception being a lack of food room service.
Elsewhere in the hotel there are plenty of things to stare at. The vast reception area towers up to a glass ceiling above and the statement staircase connects the ground floor to the first set of rooms. While this area may be imposing, there are plenty of little, and well-decorated, nooks to cosy up into. Out back is the breakfast area which sprawls onto a huge patio and the food on offer here is very good; served from 6.30-11am each morning. On the roof of the hotel is the pool and gym area. Both are on the smaller side, so make sure you nab the exercise bike or the sun lounger earlier. The pool area gets sun for the majority of the day and is a great place to unwind and watch daily Dalmatian life unfold below. Split Old Town is a ten-minute walk away and Bacvice Beach literally metres away should you decide to venture out but, honestly, this is a hotel that you won’t get bored of staying in.
The Briig Boutique Hotel is the new kid on the block but is definitely a great option if you want to escape the chaos of Split Old Town. Location-wise it is difficult to find anywhere that is more conveniently located for both the ports and train station, and there are plenty of reasons, both inside and out, that make this hotel somewhere to consider if you are visiting the city in the near future. Room rates directly from the hotel are set in stone for each of the seasons, so shop around on sites like Hotels.com if you are after a better deal. We booked our stay fairly last minute, but still managed to secure two nights for less than £350.
