Dressing in winter, it is very easy to layer up the textures and create menswear looks that tick all the boxes when it comes to variety in both fabric and colour. Dressing for summer presents a different challenge; less layers to play with and the risk of repetition and boredom when it comes to choosing that outfit for twenty-degree heat (a realistic figure for the UK, don’t want to be too optimistic here…). I am always on the lookout for well-made menswear pieces that not only look good, but also add something a little different to an outfit. With that in mind, I turned to Swedish menswear brand John Henric to pick out and style some key pieces to see me through the next few months and beyond.
I am always a sucker for a linen shirt when the temperature starts to rise, and John Henric’s Firenze Light Blue Linen Shirt is beautiful in both texture and colour. Blue can sometimes look a little bit corporate, but this piece is anything but, with a relaxed fit and lovely light feel to it. Paired with a chunkier Navy Ribbed Cotton Sweater, you can create that perfect “preppy” look with real options should the temperature start to fall. The cut of the sweater is perfect; slim enough to really fit the body while allowing enough movement to wear a shirt underneath. Finish with a pair of white jeans or chinos for that lighter summer look.
Turning to the darker shades, camel has always been a mainstay in my wardrobe. Camel coats are probably a trend most of us will carry throughout winter but, when summer does finally arrive, this Camel Polo Shirt from John Henric is a great option. The merino fabric has the slightest of sheens to it and the slim fit means less ironing and a much smarter look. It looks great when paired with either white or black, and the (slightly) matching Amo Sand Brown Suede Bag is the only choice for that finishing touch. The leather and the suede work so well together and, most importantly, it comfortably carries all my photography equipment as well as a laptop and drone. The ultimate backpack that doesn’t sacrifice style.
