It’s official. With less than two weeks left until everyone’s favourite birthday of the year, “party season” is in full swing. Work and play are perfectly blurred, with formal attire relaxed and a real move towards the smart casual look. However, if you are looking to avoid carrying your evening style into work and instead wear that day and night outfit all in one, nailing the smart casual becomes even more key. How do you dress relaxed enough for the day, with enough style for the night?

My go-to piece for the party season is almost always the blazer. Not the suit type which sees you pair it with a shirt and tie, rather a more relaxed version that sits perfectly on top of a white tee (cutting down on the ironing too). With the thermometer plunging below zero on a daily basis, I would definitely recommend choosing a heavier fabric to insulate your body, and this Brown Wool Overcheck Jacket from John Rocha at Debenhams has enough substance to act as a coat if the night does get too cold. I love the wool blend and the classic fit makes this a staple piece that you can wear through to Spring next year.

Paired with Dark Blue Slim Fit Jeans, also from Debenhams, it is a tried-and-tested look that always looks smart; albeit with a much more modern fit. I don’t actually where blue jeans that often any more, but if you have brown running through your outfit, they are always a wise choice and Debenhams have plenty in their range to choose from. Finish the look with a pair of Tan Leather Brogues; they are great for the working environment, but the tan colour goes particularly well with blue jeans. Just avoid black at all costs unless you are planning on wearing the same colour jeans to match. A leather shoe is also a great choice for winter weather, with suede being a real gamble when the rain and snow does finally come in.
