There has always been something about Ted (Ted Baker, that is) that keeps me coming back for more. Each season, Ray Kelvin’s eccentricities are funnelled through the ink of the designer’s pens and the end product is a collection worthy of any wardrobe. Statement pieces sit alongside some very well-made staples and it can become quite difficult not to actually become Ted Baker when you pick up some new clothes. As their very catchy “Ted to Toe” strapline suggests, you can indeed create some incredible outfits within this single label.
While I am usually one for a statement blazer, I thought I would challenge myself with the new SS17 collection and opt for something a little more dialled back and simple. That’s not to say there aren’t any statement pieces, of course. Starting with the shoes; this pair of Engraved Patent Loafers are a work of art. Surprisingly comfortable, the patent finish adds a smart finishing touch to any outfit, and the detail on the engraving is simply stunning. They are limited edition though so will soon become an endangered species. I suggest you hunt down a pair sooner rather than later.
Now onto the more pared down choices. Working my way up, this pair of grey Clydesy Mini Design Trousers look sharp but feel soft. The stretch fabric is the perfect blend of cotton and elastane; enough give to never feel restrictive while still holding their formal cut. The turn up hem didn’t go with my outfit, but this is an extra detail that definitely sets these trousers apart. On top, a white Pik Crew Neck Cotton T-Shirt keeps the look clean in a Sixties-style manner.
Of course, no outfit is complete with the obligatory accessories and once again Ted Baker does not come up short in this department. This Icarus Slim Rubberised Leather Document Bag has a beautiful clean look and the rubberised leather finish sets it apart from the other laptop bags on the market. It stands out from a mile away. Finally, these Nover Metallic Pilot Sunglasses complete the looks; fairly understated they have a solid hinge and actually do a great job of keeping the sun out of your eyes while looking great too.
The Ted Baker SS17 collection is in stores or you can check out the collection online here. You are more than welcome to check out those statement blazers too, of course…
