My recent trip to the colder side of Italy reinvigorated my love of all things Italian. The carb-heavy food, the fine wine and, as a bit of a surprise, a well-crafted ice-cold bottle of beer. There aren’t many hop-based beverages that make it onto my drinks list, but Peroni Nastro Azzurro will always have a place in my heart. Once voted as the “Poshest Beer in Britain”, it is a beer that embodies all things Italian; a slightly more refined and lighter taste that is the perfect partner for the upcoming warmer months.
It goes without saying that flying 1,500 miles all the way over to Italy just to appreciate the craftsmanship of this beer is a bit of a tough ask but, luckily for residents of the UK, Carlo Peroni’s creation is once again hosting its fabled House of Peroni pop-up in the Capital. Effortlessly fused together art and technology, it is a great way to immerse yourself in the cultural side of Italy, with a side of beer of course.
Headlining the event are a number of expertly poured Peroni cocktails- all sampled and approved by myself- alongside an opportunity to try your hand at creating art using Google VR and the Tilt Brush. It’s a little hard to explain, but imagine being able to step into a piece of self-created art and add colour and animation to the world around you. It needs to be experienced to be believed. You can even take the piece of art away with you digitally, should you be able to hone your inner da Vinci.
There is a lesser-known toast in Italy of “Cento di Questi Giorni”, which roughly translates to “May you have a hundred of these days”. Indeed, a good drink like this is best appreciated in the company of good friends and good culture, so why not grab a few of your mates and enjoy this expertly-crafted beer away from the bar or club. There aren’t many other places in the Capital where you can literally paint the town red.
The House of Peroni takes residence at 147 Wardour St, Soho, London, W1F 8WD from Wednesday 15th – Saturday 18th March with event tickets for the Tilt Brush by Google VR experience on sale via The House of Peroni website now: www.thehouseofperoni.com.
The House of Peroni will then travel to Edinburgh (30th March – 1st April) and Manchester (5th – 8th April)
