It’s been a while since I showed the Grooming section on my blog some love and, while the content has been a little bit stagnant in the past few months, my morning grooming routine has not. Let me share with you some of my favourite products at the moment that get me up, and make me up, each morning. The entire process takes a little bit of investment but not many minutes. Trust me, it is completely worth it.
Let’s start with the basics. If you’re going to do anything each morning then I highly recommend taking the time to properly exfoliate your face. Imagine how much dirt and polluted air enters your pores each and every day. Then imagine what happens if you leave all that dirt and all those pollutants buried in your skin: spots and blemishes. To start then, the Clinique For Men Sonic System Cleansing Brush does a damn fine job of scrubbing away any impurities. The bristles are fairly soft and so won’t damage your skin but, when paired with the Simple Kind To Skin Hydrating Cleansing Oil, they really go in for the deep clean. Step one takes less than a minute.
Each morning, I then move onto step two. Technically it is a second round of exfoliation, but the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is a unique water-activated grey powder that, science aside, helps to leave my skin feeling smoother and brighter. It is fragrance-free and the key ingredients of green tea, ginkgo and colloidal oatmeal won’t be too harsh on your skin. You’ll notice a theme here; not one of these products strips away layers of the skin or “attacks” impurities. Both work with the skin to restore it’s natural properties. Gone are the days of Clearasil and TCP.
Next, I tilt my head up and look to Space. Well, actually, Lab Series UK have managed to literally take the properties of A REAL LIFE METEORITE and bottle it up into a handy 50ml tub. While I don’t profess to be too familiar with intergalactic science, what I do know is that their Max LS Maxellence Singular Cream does absolute wonders for the skin. As you moisturise the skin, the dark grey cream slowly turns transparent and you are left with skin that feels firmer, brighter and- dare I say it- that bit more youthful. I may only be 27, but you can never be too early in protecting that ageing process.
This is by no means my complete guide to grooming, but the final product that I use religiously in my five-minute daily routine is the Tom Ford Anti-Fatigue Eye Treatment. Physiologically, it helps to reduce puffiness around the eyes, and psychologically it leaves me feeling alert and mentally ready when I leave the house. Finish with a spritz of your current scent- mine being JOOP! WOW! with strong touches of Bergamot and Cardamon- and you are ready to go. Five step, five minutes and definitely no excuses.
