The months of June and July mark the point in the calendar where we, as a nation, pray for sun and hope for homegrown success on grass in the tennis. Fast forward two weeks and Wimbledon is now coming to an end and, while I didn’t actually get the opportunity to head down to SW19 to cheer on Andy at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, I did take inspiration from the tennis-goers in my latest look.
First serve goes to this Aston & Gunn Striped Tailored Jacket from House of Fraser; the perfect summer blazer to wear with a splash of colour. The lightweight tailoring and textured finish would be the ideal choice for a day out at SW19, while being smart enough to transition from day to night. I’ve always thought that grey is an underrated colour, stereotyped for it’s saturation, and this piece demonstrates why. The slim fit will also fit any athletes body well.
For the legs, this pair of Red Boston Chino Shorts from Howick are an excellent addition to the colour wheel that now dominates my wardrobe. This isn’t a colour for every occasion (I’m sure they would be a vivid red flag to a bull for those who prefer duller tones) but, when paired with a neutral blazer, they aren’t too overbearing. Yes, it can be a divisive colour, but sometimes you just have to let that paintbrush run free and stray away from the all-whites.
My final new piece for the lookbook is this Howick Black Leather Holdall. I’m constantly on the move and always find myself with too many things to carry, so a smart bag is almost as important to me as a pair of shoes. It can make or break a look and this strong offering from House of Fraser has a great capacity with a genuine leather finish. I have plenty of smart smaller bags but this also doubles up as a handy weekender should I want to run away from all of the hype. Game. Set. Match.
