High above the town of Val d’Isere on a cold January morning, I decided to brave the single-digit figures and do an impromptu photoshoot. It was an incredible backdrop providing some dramatic scenery, although I should note that this is not recommended for those who aren’t a fan of the cold. It was also probably my toughest shoot to date and I was desperate to be back in my skiwear as the frostbite started to set in.
Luckily, this oversized fur scarf borrowed from The Lady helped to keep me warm as the sun started to set over the snow-capped horizon. As well as being an excellent way to add a layer, it provided the perfect material to insulate me in the prevailing winds. On my top half, this ASOS Grey Overcoat is a great companion for the winter months. It’s thick wool lining is hidden in a smart, sleek design and it is perfect to pair with both formal and casual wear for almost any occasion. In this outfit, it sat on top of a Khaki Chunky Ribbed Jumper from River Island. Khaki is a great colour to sit between lighter skin tones and darker shades and this piece fits well to the body, avoiding that ‘frumpy’ look.
To finish off the outfit, and by no means opting for functionality over fashion, this pair of Black Stretch Skinny Jeans from Topman and my trusty pair of Banfield Leather Zip Boots complete the look. The jeans have become a staple in my wardrobe and are ideal for rain, sleet and snow, while the boots are great with keeping my feet warm. Word of warning though; these boots cope well with snow and ice at ground level but they weren’t quite appropriate when skidding around at the top of a red run. Still, who said fashion was easy?
