Last Sunday saw myself and the Lady venture outside of Zones 1-2 and head due north from Kings Cross Station to Leicester, nestled between the great north-south divide. Our destination for the grand day out was Welford Road, home of rugby union’s Leicester Tigers.
As a special treat from the team at CAT Footwear and Coffin on Cake PR, we had an executive box for the day, overlooking the Aviva Premiership clash with London Wasps. Pre-match champagne and an incredible three-course meal was only topped by a visit from ex-England captain Martin Corry MBE as well as current Leicester players Ben Youngs and man-mountain Graham Kitchener. At six-foot tall and a healthy weight, I thought a return to rugby could be on the cards shortly, but after sizing up against 120kg stretched six-and-a-half feet towards the ceiling, I’ve definitely reconsidered.
The game itself was a cracker; a good old-fashioned battle between two heavyweights in the English game. Watching every bang, thud and slap from afar was, however, the only way to appreciate it. The hospitality was excellent and with the home team getting an early season win, it was smiles all around from the CAT Footwear team. As the final whistle beckoned closer the day couldn’t have been much better, although the city of Leicester produced a rather magical sunset to finish the day off in style.
