With the first two days of our Mediterranean Delights Fitness Voyage promising so much, it was great to wake up to another perfect morning on day three. The waters were calm and the morning yoga was followed by another delectable fresh breakfast. Life on the seas is so easy when you don’t have to worry about sailing!
After breakfast, there was just enough time to drop the kayak into the water for a morning paddle. The water was so clear and blue that we were able to see hundreds of fish swarming the boat in the water, probably also enticed by the chunks of bread that may have ‘fallen’ into the water during breakfast.
With the morning exercise completed, the anchor was lifted from the sea bed and it was time to cross the watery border separating Turkey and Greece. I’ve been through many passport controls in my life, but this has to be the most picturesque of them all. A visit to Bozburun certainly beats standing in a line at Gatwick. It also gave us time to do an impromptu outfit shoot.
After obtaining our Greek visas, there was one last treat for us in Turkey. We were invited to the home of a local village woman for a feast of epic proportions. We had a masterclass in cooking rice in pumpkin leaves with a side of Turkish coffee. Alert and ready for the afternoon ahead, it was time to finally cross the border.
The afternoon was spent navigating the coves of Symi Island. Towering above the boat, the cliff faces gave us an impressive backdrop for our penultimate stop of the day. Then, it was off to Symi harbour. We were greeted by a cascade of colour falling down the hill into the dark blue of a sunset sea. Once again, the voyage continued to surprise and delight. Once again, we had the perfect excuse for the second outfit shoot of the day.
As the sun set over Greece, we ventured into the harbour for a few (non-healthy) drinks. Conversing over cocktails with our now close friends, we discussed what could lie ahead over the weekend. Needless to say, there were a few more surprises in store…
What a time! Everything about this atmosphere seems enjoyable. Greece is my favorite water oasis destination.
