Doughnuts are good. In fact, doughnuts are great. Sure they don’t fit into my everyday diet (the fat-and-sugar-to-protein ratio is slightly off), but on a cheat day there is no better way to indulge a sweet tooth than with this sugar-laden baked circle of joy. Walking through Soho, we noticed a coffee and doughnut bar that looked intriguing. In search of a caffeine and sugar fix, we entered into Crosstown Doughnuts…
Rows of gourmet doughnuts, straight from a Willy Wonka factory, greeted us. There were a multitude of colours with flavour combinations to make any foodie salivate, and we were spoiled for choice. After much deliberation, I opted for the Peanut Butter & Berry Doughnut. A classic take on the peanut butter and jelly combination, this square doughnut is made from sourdough and is topped with an incredible peanut butter glaze and home-made blackcurrant compote. An accompanying homemade mocha made with real dark Ecuadorian chocolate was the perfect pick-me-up.
The Lady chose something a little more delicate but equally as indulgent; a Sea Salt Caramel and Banana Cream doughnut. A chocolate sourdough base concealed the banana cream and the doughnut was topped with a rich sea salt caramel sauce. Heaven.
There were so many doughnuts to try and there are plenty of excuses to pop back in to sample the unique, and ever evolving, recipes. I wouldn’t advise switching to a doughnut-orientated diet, but if you feel the need to treat yourself to something special, you can find Crosstown Doughnuts at the following locations.
