Versace ‘Eros’

I’ve always had the opinion that the designers at Versace live by the all or nothing principal. For every exquisitely designed suit, there were probably thousands of half-decent efforts that didn’t leave the drawing board. So, when I went to unbox their ‘Eros‘ scent, I half expected a cherub to fly past my ear with bow and arrow at the ready. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

Absurd expectations aside, the packaging from Versace is unashamedly flamboyant. The bright blue, shiny exterior certainly stands out from the crowd, yet is arguably equally restrained. No Sistine Chapel here, just a single shade of reflective blue.

The bottle itself, however, is a little more creative. Contrary to the popular book-related proverb, you can often judge a fragrance by it’s cover and ‘Eros’ doesn’t disappoint. Strong, bold aromas of vanilla and green apple hit you like a heavyweight punch. Think Miami Vice; distinctly Eighties in tone and proud of it. I dare-say that if Tony Montana didn’t have a certain ‘habit’, he would have been a huge fan of this scent.

Living dangerously on the edge of being overpowering, ‘Eros’ is a great fragrance. It is the closest (legal) offering of testosterone in a bottle and is sure to make an impression. Highly recommended for those looking for a bolder scent.

What is your favourite fragrance? Do you prefer bold or subtle scents?
