A Sandwich by Design

January is certainly living up to expectations and throwing a good number of sub-zero days our way at the moment, giving me the perfect excuse to spend a few hours in Harrods

Now, there are a few certainties in life. I don’t want to sound too morbid, but yes, you will die, and yes, you will pay taxes. The third truth is that most men will only shop in short bursts and require constant refuelling. Luckily, like an oasis amongst the largely inedible desert of the Knightsbridge store, the hungry gentleman can find ‘Sandwich‘ by renowned (self-taught) designer Tom Dixon.

A safe haven amongst numerous tempting purchases, the sandwich bar oozes quality. Every fitting and fixture looks like it has been designed from scratch and the whole experience has been given the Tom Dixon touch.

Of course, it would be rude to ignore the exceptional food on offer. Everything on the fairly short menu is distinctly British and simple. Myself and the Lady opted for the Goat’s cheese, English pear and candied walnuts on ciabatta, with a British cheese board with fruit toasts and quince paste to share. I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

The warm, soft Goat’s cheese was a superb contrast to the crispy ciabatta, with the walnuts and pear adding just enough flavour to cut through the overall taste. The cheese board offered a good selection of cheeses but arguably it was the accompanying fruit toasts and quince that were the star performers.

If you have more stamina for your retail hobby then there is an equally impressive selection of sandwiches-to-go alongside everything imaginable for the sweeter tooth.

Do you have a favourite place to go for a lighter bite to eat?
