Mornings are tough. Even as a morning person, I can sometimes find life a struggle when I stumble, bleary-eyed, into the bathroom before 7am. The prospect of having a shower or brushing my teeth can be a daunting prospect in its own right. Trying to navigate the contours on my face and trim the topiary is a whole different ball game. Then there’s the issue of having the right razor.
Shopping lists are my forte; the weekly shop from Tesco is always under control and the fridge is fully stocked with all we need to eat. However, despite my mastery of the mundane, I regularly overlook a trip to grooming aisle. Luckily, Cornerstone have me covered on this. Their subscription box ticks all of the boxes in that it provides all you need for a quick tidy up, but the real selling point is the quality of the products; not a nick or a scratch in sight!
The first step is to pick from the three straightforward delivery options. Nothing technical here, you choose between “daily” (they’ll send one box every six weeks), “now & then” (one box every twelve weeks) or “not often” (one box every eighteen weeks). As a bearded gentleman, I opted for the latter. You then also choose what you get in the box from the product range; the razor (which can be engraved), the blades, a Pre-Shave Face Scrub, Shave Gel or Post-Shave Balm.
The Pre-Shave Scrub is an absolute godsend when it comes to trimming fine hair around my beard. The volcanic sand really helps to get underneath your hairs and lift them from the face, unblocking pores and removing any dead skin cells. It gives you the perfect canvas on which to attempt to create your bearded masterpiece (coffee has entered the system at this point).
Next up, the Shave Gel. Containing ginger and eucalyptus, it helps to soothe the skin but, perhaps most importantly, it doesn’t contain any harsh soaps that may harm the skin. Then comes the hard part. Luckily, the winner of “Best Razor Award” earned its stripes through clever design and a sharp cut. The weighted handle gives the razor size, while the smaller head really gets into the folds of the skin. For the first time ever, not a single drop of blood was spilled that morning. A glowing recommendation if there ever was one.
Finally, the Post-Shave Balm will readily amend any damage done to the skin in the process. The mint and honey soothe the skin and leave you with that fresh and tingly feeling that really lets you know you are awake. If you fancy changing up your morning routine and want to take the stress out of shaving, you can check out the subscription boxes here.
